Chapter Four

Deacon looked at Bridget stunned, the words “Your bastard daughter” still ringing in his ears. A wave of anger swept over him and he struggled to keep his feelings from showing on his face as he turned to look at her.
“Still hanging on to that are we?” he drawled, amazed at how even his voice was. “I thought you had forgiven your mother.”
“I’ll never forgive her.” Spat Bridget venomously. “And now she is going to pay, for your affair, for Hope, for stealing Ridge away and for making Nick love her.”
Deacon just stared at her, the fury in her voice was so at odds with the sweet innocent image she portrayed to the world and her eyes, he thought, there was a touch of madness in them. Whatever had happened while he was away had apparently tipped Bridget over the edge, perhaps she had never been that far away to begin with. The recollection of the hate in her voice when his daughter was mention concerned him, she was gunning for Brooke, would Hope get caught in the crossfire?
“So this is about Nick?”
“Damm right it is, he is in love with my Mother, and she with him.” She laughed humorlessly at that “But she can’t have him, I am pregnant with his baby, or at least that’s what they think.” The startled look on her face told him that she had not intended for that little snipet of information to slip out
Deacon was silent, his mind chewing over her words, if she wasn’t pregnant then... It all made sense, that’s what she had been doing at the bar, finding someone to get her pregnant, so that she could hold on to Nick. “Do you even love him? Or is this just about sticking the boot into your Mother.”
“I do love him.” She stated glaring at him “And I will do anything to keep him.”
“Why not just sleep with him, tell him that the baby was early?”
“He’s upset with me at the moment.”
“About what?”
Exasperated with all his questions she silenced him with a look. “It doesn’t matter. My mother wants them to be a family, them and Hope and RJ, but I can’t let that happen, they don’t deserve to be happy.”
“Nick and Brooke?”
“Oh no.” Bridget replied sweetly “Nick deserves to be happy, and he will be with me. But my mother and your daughter don’t. I can’t let Hope have the happy childhood I missed out on, that wouldn’t be fair would it?”
Deacon raised his eyebrows at that comment, all this time he had assumed that she had not held Hope culpable for what he and Brooke had done, but apparently she saw his daughter the same way she saw her mother, as the enemy. Deacon knew he had made mistakes in his life, but his children should not pay for them. Whatever it took, he thought, as an idea started to form in his mind.
“So you need someone fair haired to do the deed? Hence the himbo’s at the bar.”
Bridget looked at him and smiled slyly. “Are you offering?”
“What’s in it for me?’ he asked raising his eyebrows mockingly.
Bridget thought for a moment, what could she give him. “What do you want?”
“I want cash, and lots of it.”
“How much?”
“Your trust fund.” He grinned at the startled look on her face. “All of it.”
“But Deacon, that is over a million dollars.”
He continued to smile at her. “I know, but your beloved Nick is loaded, after you get married you won’t need money.” He stated calmly. “I do, I have two children to support.”
Bridget’s thoughts raced, getting the money would not be a problem , she had free access too it. Time was running out, Deacon was willing and given past history, he was fertile. “Deal”
“Perfect.”
Without another word Bridget leaned over and started to kiss him, her hands frantically unbuttoning the buttons of his shirt. For a moment Deacon allowed himself to kiss her, sexual compatability had never been a problem in their marriage. Feeling her hands reaching for his belt buckle he pushed her way hands trembling slightly as he gulped in some much needed oxygen. “Not here.” He stated firmly.
Bridget threw herself back into her seat in frustration. “When.”
“You get me the cash and then.” He paused slightly a cocky grin on his face. “You get me.”
“Fine!” she snapped smoothing her fair from her face, she composed herself and started the car. “Where too?”
“I think the Four Seasons sounds good, I just came into some money.”
Bridget glared at him, and the tyres squealed slightly as she headed out of the car park towards the freeway. Deacon smiled smugly, this was all going very well. And he had been worried about his return, he had cash, a place to stay, now all he needed was access to his daughter. Things were going very well indeed, maybe his luck was finally changing.

The soft tones of Faith Hill on the stereo were the only sounds in the lounge, where Taylor sat nursing a glass of red wine, lost in thought. She heard Brooke coming down the stairs and swept a stray tear from her cheek, struggling to find a welcoming smile.
“Only three stories tonight and Hope is finally asleep.” Brooke sighed in relief. “You ok?” She asked as she curled up in the chair opposite, picking up her own glass of wine.
Taylor shrugged, not really sure how she was feeling. “I don’t know, I feel kind of adrift at the moment, all out at sea.”
Brooke muffled a giggle, but seeing the slightly hurt look on Taylor’s face she explained quickly. “Sorry, it was the sea analogy, for a moment you sounded like Nick.”
“Oh” that short word was full of innuendo as was the look on the other woman’s face.
“What?”
Taylor raised an eyebrow and her lips quirked in a knowing smile. “ I have heard the whole story from Stephanie, she came to see me this morning.”
Brooke interrupted her quickly. “You have heard Stephanie’s version, which will be horribly biased. Painting me as the villain. The home wrecker.” Realising from her silence and attentive look that Taylor was actually waiting, willing to hear her side she continued. “I love him, that much I’m sure you have worked out.”
Taylor nodded. “I knew he loved you the moment I met him and I see how much you obviously love him, it’s written all over your face.”
Brooke smiled, a soft dreamy expression on her face as she thought about Nick. “I do, so much, but I can’t act on it.”
“Because of Bridget.”
“Yes, she is pregnant with his baby, and I can’t get in the way of that. They need to be together for the child, he has wanted to be a father for so long.”
“Have you told him you love him?” Taylor queried
“When we thought that Bridget had an abortion, he was shattered and he was on board the Shady Marlin getting ready to set sail in a storm. I went to see him; I had to stop him, from doing something reckless. That was the moment I realized how much I loved him, when I thought I was going to lose him, and so I told him.” Brooke explained tears gathering in her eyes as she remembered that night. “We kissed and held each other, and he told me he loved me too, that he’d never stopped loving me. We were going to have a life together, be a family with Hope and RJ..” her voice faded away as tears flowed down her face.
“Then Bridget told you the truth.”
”Yes, and I realized that we couldn’t be together, his place was with Bridget.”
“And where is your place Brooke?”
“Here, alone.”
Taylor put her wine down and moved over to sit beside her, returning the comfort that Brooke had offered her earlier. “You are not alone, you have your children and mine, Eric and amazingly enough, you’ll have me.”
Brooke sniffed delicately smiling at that last comment. “Stephanie will fake another heart attack over that one.”
“I don’t think this is why she wanted me over here today. I know she didn’t send me over here to end my marriage to Ridge.”
“No, she wanted you to come over here and tell me what a bad mother I am, to stop me from stealing Nick away from my daughter.”
“You’re not a bad mother.” Taylor said with conviction. “What you are sacrificing for Bridget’s happiness proves that.”
“I’m trying. But I can’t stop thinking about him.”
“I know just how you feel.”
They looked at each other in total understanding, both of them aware of their similar situations, in love with men that for different reasons they could not be with.
“Ok, that’s it.” Taylor said with conviction, getting too her feet and looking over at Brooke.
“What?”
“What are we doing? We are two fabulous women, strong, intelligent and also if I do say so myself, not too hard on the eyes and we are sitting here crying into our Merlot about men.”
Brooke smiled and nodded in agreement. “Absolutely!”
“Time for us to move on to better things.”
Brooke stood up and handed Taylor her wine glass. “Too us!” They said in unison as they clinked their glasses together.

Deacon raised his face to the morning sun and took a deep breath, this was going to be one of the most important conversations of his life, and he needed all of his confidence now. Letting his breath out in a rush, he raised his hand to knock on the massive wooden doors in front of him, here goes nothing, he thought. The door opened and Brooke stood in front of him, casually clad in jeans and a silky blue top, she looked as beautiful as ever. The shocked and dismayed look on her face, however, did not bode well.
“What are you doing here?”
He raised his hands in a conciliatory gesture. “I was wondering if I could talk to you, about Hope.”
Brooke started to shake her head.
“Hear me out, please?” Deacon pleaded, placing his hand on the door, before she could close it. “Please?”
She looked at him intently for a long moment, searching his face. What she saw must have convinced her and she stepped away from the door to grant him entry. “By the pool.” She said shortly, leading him through the French doors and indicating that he should take a seat at the patio setting.
Deacon looked at her, noticing he sadness lurking behind her eyes, the tiredness marked by dark circles under her eyes, that no amount of makeup could hide. He had only loved, really loved three people in his life, his children and the woman sitting in front of him. There had been a time when he would have given his life for hers, and if he was being really honest with himself, he probably still would. Brooke Logan was not an easy woman to get over.
“I’m not sure about this Deacon, from recollection, we’ve had this conversation before.”
“I know we have, and you agreed to let me see her last time, I’m sober if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“You’ve finished rehab then?” Brooke asked softly.
“I have.” He stated firmly. “You understand that my falling off the wagon was greatly assisted by Massimo spiking my drinks.”
Brooke nodded, Nick had filled her in on the whole sordid story. “I know you love Hope, but..”
“Brooke, I do love her, I need to see her, to have her in my life.” Deacon interrupted quickly.
“I know you do. Despite everything you and I have done, I have never doubted that you love her. But she has been through so much lately, she was settled with Ridge and I, and then Taylor came back and now we are here and she’s confused again.” She explained tremulously. “I don’t want to do anything that is going to unsettle her.”
“I understand that, I really do.” Deacon said earnestly. “But I don’t want her to think that I left her, I think it is important for her to know that Mommy and Daddy are the two things in her life that are constant. I’m not looking for custody, I just want her to know me, to know that I will always be here for her.”
Brooke thought for a moment, what he said made sense, Hope was his daughter, maybe she needed to allow Deacon to be Hopes Dad, not Ridge, not anyone else. He was not perfect, far from it, but he loved his kids and he would never knowingly hurt them. “You can see her, under my supervision. But there are ground rules.”
“Fine”
“No drinking, I don’t want her caught up in whatever scheme you are involved in at the moment and she stays here with me, at least until I am sure you can be trusted.”
Deacon almost smiled at that, if only she knew what he was getting up to with her own daughter. They sat in silence for a moment and he allowed himself to bask in the sight of her, it would be so easy for him to get caught in her web again. For the first time, they were both single, they shared a child he speculated, once upon a time they had burned white hot, could they again? Deacon’s musings were interrupted by the ringing of the phone that sat between them on the table.
Grimacing apologetically at him Brooke picked it up. “Brooke Logan speaking.”
Deacon raised an eyebrow at that one, she had actually given up the Forrester name, Ridge must have really blown it this time.
“No Ridge, I think I said everything there was to say last night, so did Taylor.” Brooke said firmly.
Don’t tell me they were finally ganging up on the old boy, Deacon thought ruefully, he did not stand a chance.
“It’s over” Brooke said “Don’t Ridge, I’m not going over this again, the only thing you and I have to talk about now is RJ” she paused to listen for a moment. “Well, when you start acting like my friend, then we can be friends. Bye Ridge.”
Brooke put the phone back down on the table, warning Deacon with a look not to comment, he shook his head “I’m not touching that with a ten foot pole.” He conceded.
The sound of the front door opening caused them both to look into the lounge to find Eric looking back at them tension in ever line of his body. “What is he doing here?”
“Eric” soothed Brooke, standing to greet him. “He’s here to talk about Hope.”
“The man is a drunk, an opportunist and a con artist. You are not going to let him back in here? To spend time with Hope? ”
“Yes, actually I am.” She stated firmly, placing her hand on his sleeve to stop him as he advanced angrily towards Deacon. “He is Hope’s father and she needs to see him, I want her to at least have one stable father figure in her life.”
Eric glared over at the younger man, who leaned back on his chair and smirked confidently at him. “If you married me like I asked you before, we could give her that stability.”
Deacon looked down at his feet, actually shocked to see that his jaw had not hit the floor in shock, Eric and Brooke married, again? He was kidding right?
“I’m sorry, but as I said before, I need to stand on my own too feet, I still care very deeply for you, but it wouldn’t work.”
Eric looked at her sadly knowing in his heart that she was right. He covered the hand still resting on his arm with his. “You know where I am if you need me.” Directing his attention to Deacon, he shot him another antagonistic look “I’ll be watching you.”
Deacon grinned cockily back at him. “Right back at you Grandpa.”
Eric snorted in disgust and turned, allowing Brooke to lead him towards the front door.
As they walked out of earshot Deacon allowed his amusement to burst free in a chuckle, what was the old boy thinking? A woman like Brooke, was way out of his league. Seeing a flash of movement behind him he turned to see a well muscled mediterranean looking man, clad only in speedo’s walk round the corned towards the pool. This just kept getting more and more interesting, although it would not be Brooke’s house without some dark haired guy prancing around the pool in speedo’s, Deacon thought as he rose to great the other man. “Deacon Sharpe.” He offered along with his handshake.
“Dante”
The two men sized each other up warily, as Brooke walked back through the doors. “Ah I see you two have met.” She smiled at them uncertain of what was happening, they were all smiles on the surface, but you could cut the tension in the air with a knife. Thankfully they both followed her lead as she sat back down at the table. “Deacon is Hope’s father.”
Dante arched his eyebrows at that. “So this is Bridget’s first husband?”
‘First husband?’ Deacon mused, smiling as he realized that the other man was jealous of his prior relationship with Bridget, how very interesting!
“Yes.” Brooke replied, looking from one to the other, still uneasy about their interaction. “Dante is a friend of Bridget’s, he’s staying here for a while.”
“Not just a friend of Bridget’s Cara Mia.” Dante crooned taking Brooke’s hand and lightly kissing each knuckle turn. ‘I am your friend too, I hope.”
It took all of Deacon’s will power not to punch Dante right in his roman nose. ‘Back off buddy’, he thought angrily, barely containing himself, he managed to drawl sarcastically. “How very sweet.”
Dante let go of Brooke’s hand reluctantly and Deacon was happy to notice her put both hands into her lap, as though to cut off any more of the Italian’s practiced seduction.
“I was about to go for a swim, will you join me?”
Before Brooke could reply, Deacon cut in sarcastically “Sorry, too much to do, no trunks, some other time maybe?”
“Not today Dante.” Brooke interrupted throwing a reproving look at Deacon. “I think Deacon might want to see Hope?”
Deacon nodded his ascent and they stood in unison. “Nice to meet you Dante.” The insincerity was palpable in his voice as he followed Brooke into the lounge, resting his hand lightly on her back, knowing without looking that the ‘italian stallion’ was glaring angrily at him. Apparently Bridget was not the only woman that Dante was inclined to be possessive of.
Perhaps his timing was a little off, maybe he should bide his time and wait for the playing field to clear slightly before he made his move on Brooke. Seeing Hope regularly would mean that he would be in and out of this house all the time. Brooke would need someone to pick up the pieces when Bridget’s plan came to fuition, and he knew just the guy for the job. Ridge was obviously well out of the picture, Brooke was showing a decided lack of interest in Eric’s advances, his only competition was Dante, but he had Hope and a history with Brooke on his side. Suddenly a million dollars was not the only motivation for him to help his ex wife, things were about to get very interesting indeed.

Whoa. For a moment there I thought Deacon was actually going to help Brooke instead of Bridget, but he wants to get HER out of this LOL! You know, I was one of those nasty Breacons tee hee, so for me, I wouldn't mind another round of that if Bricky can't happen. But in this story Bricky CAN and SHOULD happen so I guess Deacon is going to be another obsticle! As is Ridge, Dante and Eric LOL!
Your Bridget is a crazy assed bitch on wheels! Can't someone just kill her LOL!
And I am really loving Brooke and Taylor as friends. That's a concept that I am using in my own story Changes and one I'd really like to see on the show.
Thanks for the wonderful chapter! I really enjoyed it! :-*

Wow another wonderful chapter. It seems everybody have their own agenda in Brooke Logan. Can't say much about Dante but he seems a bit off to me. Deacon is as despicable as ever. Agreeing to help Bridget to hurt the woman he claims to love. I am doubting his so-called love for Brooke. Maybe Taylor can offer Brooke real friendship.

At least Eric is actually sincere in helping Brooke and he has nothing to gain from her at this moment. So glad in this story, Brooke is calling Ridge on his waffling ways and firmly putting him in his place. I won't comment on Bridget. I promised myself, I wouldn't not swear and if I comment on her, I will break my own promise. What I can say is I HATE her.

Thanks for this fantastic part. Hope to read the next chapter soon.

What a fantastic chapter! :-* I'm genuinely shocked that Bridget didn't even attempt to reign in her venom for Deacon's sake. WOW. She is truly "touched." She resents Hope but wants to ball Hope's father. The other thing she's crazy in the head about is her whining about how Brooke stole Ridge from her. Excuse me, but when was Ridge ever her man? Stupid bitch.

Deacon is still a snake in the grass, IMO. I don't like him having his hands on Brooke at all. With all the people running in and out of Brooke's house, she needs to set some clear boundaries. She has way too many people who seem more than content to leech off of her to get what they want.

Ridge sure has some nerve calling Brooke to whine some more! BTW--where did he lay his bony rump the night before? I'm so glad that Brooke is holding on to her stance with him and is not falling for anymore of his waffling B.S. Eric is a trip, and so is Dante, who apparently has made himself at home already.

I love the idea of Brooke and Taylor bonding and determining that they were fabulous and deserved more. I look forward to seeing their friendship develop.

Great chapter and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Stupid tramp. Ridge was never her man.

"I can’t let Hope have the happy childhood I missed out on, that wouldn’t be fair would it?”

:P :PBitch.

Bridget thought for a moment, what could she give him. “What do you want?”
“I want cash, and lots of it.”

So, Deacon wants money? Surprise, surprise.

“How much?”
“Your trust fund.” He grinned at the startled look on her face. “All of it.”

:)LOL! When the dust settles, princess will have nothing.

“But Deacon, that is over a million dollars.”
He continued to smile at her. “I know, but your beloved Nick is loaded, after you get married you won’t need money.” He stated calmly. “I do, I have two children to support.”

“You’re not a bad mother.” Taylor said with conviction. “What you are sacrificing for Bridget’s happiness proves that.”

I am enjoying Brooke and Taylor's dialog.

Another excellent installment.

Boy, BooHoo is a piece of work! Still whining about Ridge being her man. If Deacon weren't such a sleazy opportunist, he would tell Nick about BooHoo's little scam. And his deamnding her trust fund-all of it-has me LMAO. BooHoo had better make sure all her tracks are covered, or she will have handed over her money for nothing.
